Nice title, huh? The Canadian prairies are a pretty happenin' place these days; Janice just got back from a trip home to Regina, and there's a huge job and real estate boom happening there. What caught my attention this past week, though, was news of how the University of Saskatchewan's ribbon climber just missed bringing home the 2007 Space Elevator Games first prize. Aside from having the best (if not winning) climbs, the USST fielded the first laser-powered climb of its type outside of a lab. Go, USST! There's always next year--and more to the point, their entry worked so well that they're making the concept look feasible. Not bad for a bunch of guys from "the land of living skies."
