from the dept. The good folks at WorldChanging have published a short story of mine, Community. This is a piece of strictly projective fiction (attempting to look at a real, possible future) commissioned as part of their Canadachanging series this past week. WorldChanging is my favourite website. It's one of the most optimistic, clear-eyed sites out there--miraculously free of partisan whining and cataclysmic doom-saying. Worldchanging talks about solutions that work for problems such as biodiversity and climate change; for the most part they talk about systems, technologies and business plans that already exist and are proven. Such reportage is better than optimism. It represents courageous realism in the face of daunting problems. And we need that sensibility very badly these days. < | >
